# Connect releases to GitHub

Source: https://www.sheepit.ai/docs/concepts/releases

_Link a repo, paste a webhook secret. Then every push gets recorded._

The premise: every change is a hypothesis. "This won't make anything worse." Sheepit tests the hypothesis automatically — by comparing your crash-free rate before and after, and telling you if it got worse.

## The setup

1. Settings → Integrations → GitHub → add your repo.
2. Sheepit gives you a webhook secret and a payload URL, shown once.
3. Paste both into that repo's GitHub webhook settings.

## What gets recorded

- A push to any branch → a source revision with the commit SHA (tags are ignored).
- A merged pull request → a source revision with the PR number and title.
- Neither one creates a Release by itself — pair it with a release created via the API, the CLI, or your CI's deploy hook.

## What you get back

- A deploy timeline (every release, every environment, side by side).
- Per-release crash signatures, so you can see what started after a given version.
- A crash-free-rate comparison for the window around each change, flagging regressions automatically.

> **Note:** Releases are created from your build system, one per platform: sheepit releases create --version <version> --platform <web|ios|android|backend> --environment-id <uuid> [--channel production] [--activate]. A linked GitHub repository records commits; it never creates a release.

**Do next:** [Tag your first release →](https://www.sheepit.ai/signup)
